De Niña a Mujer, USA/RUS, 2010, video, 11 min.
30 sec excerpt.
(...) Petschnig met Viktor, the photographer, after she discovered his images in a New York flea market in 2009. She then traveled to his home in St. Petersburg, Russia, to observe his photo sessions. We might regard Petschnig’s journey, following Viktor, as an attempt to locate the reality with the fantasy. Though her approach could have been that of an investigative documentary, her video, an assemblage of fragments, is more dream-like, built of elements both familiar and strange. In this amateur pornographer she discovers an image-maker not unlike herself. Both craft imaginative worlds from within that most protected and secret of places, the home.
