De Niña a Mujer, USA/RUS, 2010, video, 11 min.
In 2009, as Petschnig browsed New York flea markets in search of material for her archive of found images, she came upon elaborately-staged erotic photographs of anonymous women. The images were shot in a consistent visual style that led her to suspect they were taken by the same photographer. After several return visits, the vendor offered to connect her with the photographer, Viktor, a Russian living in New York and St. Petersburg, Russia. The video De Niña a Mujer tracks Petschnig’s ensuing relationship with Viktor and is inspired by his strange world. It was shot during Petschnig’s visit to Russia, where she was privy to photo sessions in Viktor’s home.
